Spooky Story

October 31, Halloween, 11:59 am.

In the old clockworks house. with old creaky wooden floors, run down walls with peeling paint and dust, shattered glass on torn rugs. It was a sunny day like any other. The clock rang loudly in my ears. That meant it was twelve o’clock. I saw a mouse scurried through a corridor into a room filled with newspapers and sunrays, you could see dust floating about in the air from the light. I heard one of the floorboards creak while I was looking at the corridor. I looked behind me and saw a shadowy figure reaching for me. I backed away very slowly. And waited to see what would happen. He moved closer to me. I hollered for Trevor. No answer was heard. I yelled again. No answer. I closed my eyes and backed up against the wall, turning my head to the right. Gritting my teeth. I screamed for help. I opened one eye. The figure wasn’t there anymore. I ran into Trevor’s room. I told him what had happened. “There was a huge gigantic shadowy figure chasing after me. He smelt like rotten eggs. He was very sketchy. He put me up against a wall. I screamed and when I opened my eyes he disappeared.”. Trevor had his headphones on and probably didn’t hear a thing I said. He responded with; oh sure the snacks are on the upper shelf in the kitchen. I stomped out of the room like an angry gorilla. I sometimes get really really really really annoyed at my brother. I thought back when I saw that figure. I had no clue what he or she was. Maybe it wasn’t even a human. Then I realized I was thinking too much. It was probably just me seeing things. I went to go read a book…. When I thought I saw them again. I scurried through the corridor into Trevors room again. I said to him I thought I saw them again. He had no response. I was so raged I ripped off his headphones and said; “LISTEN TO ME!! I was not talking about snacks Trevor, I was talking about a strange figure I saw.”. I walked out of his room like a weeping willow. I was bending down walking around the house with my arms drooping down to my knees. I sighed. I walked over to the living room and sat down. When I sat, dust particles flew up from the sofa. I wrapped my arms around my calves. And put my head down. Trevor walked out of his room “i’m going into town. Wanna come?” he said. I shook my head violently yes. I went to go grab my coat. And when I grabbed it, I grabbed it hard. And it tore the sleeve. I groaned as I pulled it over my shoulders and zipped it up. As we were walking down the stairs of the house I started to hear more than four footsteps. The air felt cold. I tucked my head a little into my coat. I looked behind me slowly. The spiral staircase was getting darker as we walked along. I squeezed my eyes shut and continued on. When we got to the bottom of the stairs, we started walking down the bit of the hill. I tripped and fell because it was raining the day before. I got mud on my knees and hands. But we continued on. Once we got into town there was smog everywhere and homeless people on the streets begging for money and food for whom I wish I could help. We walked down a dark alleyway. Steam was coming out of buildings. There were knocked down trash cans in the alley. Rats climbing up drain pipes and junk. I asked Trevor where we were going. “Orphanage…” he responded. I stopped and asked him “ORPHANAGE??? Why are we going there? Those kids eat slop all day and are not even able to get full once. I’m not going!”. “Yes we are, they’re having adults come and buy any kids they want. Don’t you want a family?”. Trevore responded. “OK fine… but the way you said that though.”. I looked down at the ground while walking and kicked little rocks along the way. When we got to the end of the alleyway we walked past some creepy looking door. I stared at it intensely.. Nothing happened. I walked on in front of Trevor just in case anything did happen. Then i heard it! A big “BANG!” noise came from the door. The door opened widely and hit Trevor down with it. I covered my mouth with both of my hands and stepped back slowly, screaming saying “help me! Please!”. I ran over to Trevor. He was bruised. What did they want from me. I struggled to pick him up. And dragged him to the orphanage. I rushed through the door as fast as I could. People started looking at us worried. People started whispering to others. “Please!” I said. There was this couple who rushed through the crowd of clowns and got to us. The lady had strawberry blonde hair. The man had light brown hair. I layed Trevor down and the lady said to me it's gonna be alright, with a twinkle in her eyes. I struggled to smile back. I explained to them what had happened. They said that they'll help. And bring us home with them to help with Trevor. We got in the car and drove off. When we arrived the man carried Trevor and sat him on the couch. The woman brought some cotton wet bandages over to the sofa. He placed them on all his bruises and cuts. I asked them for their names. “Marilyn but you can call me Mary if you’d like.” said the lady. “Leonard but you can call me Leo.” the man said. “My name is Stacy!” I responded with. Mary asked where our parents were. I said we don’t have any. We’re orphans. We live in the rundown clockworks house on the hill on Maples street. Leo looked at Mary. you can stay the night here if you’d like said Leo. “thanks so much! That’d be awesome!” I responded with. Trevor woke up after an Eternity it seemed like. He sat up and said “that was a hard hit.” we all laughed while he said “what’s so funny??!!??” oh nothing said Mary. “oh ok…”. Responded Trevor. It was about 7:30. Leo made some hot chocolate and we all watched a quick show and went to bed. When I walked into where I was going to stay the night, my jaw dropped to the floor. I was amazed. The walls were a light pink. String lights hanging over my bed. Fish swimming about in their tank. And the most beautiful flower painting i’ve ever seen in my life! Unzipped my jacket and set it down on the carpet. I yelled “this is AMAZING!”. Leo and Mary walked in from the doorway. I turned around and saw them and ran over to give them a huge hug. They hugged me back. “Thank you so much! This is the best gift anyone has ever given me!” I said. They both said you’re welcome. They both looked at eachother. And said to me “how would you like it if this was your room. We mean… forever?” I got confused and then noticed what they meant. My face lit up like a million suns and stars. “Are you going to give us a family??” I asked. “They smiled and put their hands on my shoulders “yes. Ding ding correct. While you were up here we talked to Trevor and the Orphanage and all we have to do is sign a few paperworks. And then you’re our. Their eyes were so warm. I just had to give them another hug. So I did. I ran in between them and ran into Trevors room and hugged him and spun around in circles while jumping. We laughed. The adults peered in and laughed and joined in. after all our fun we actually went to bed. I dreamt about what it's going to be like for the rest of my life. No more living in that ‘ol stinky run down clockworks house. But then I remembered hw Trevor got hurt. And how weird things were happening. I tried to push that single thought out. I sat up in bed and rubbed my temples. It was about 3:00 in the morning. I looked out MY window. I saw the moonlight shining through into my room. Something ran across my closet. I tucked my legs in. “Trevor is that you? Mary? Leo? This isn’t funny.”. I saw the shadow figure. I noticed it was that sketchy dude again. I said to them “GET OUT!” they came towards me. I whimpered like a dog. Someone must’ve heard me yelling. Because I heard footsteps coming from up the stairs. Mary and Leo bursted into MY room. One of them had a bat and ran in. they asked what happened. I teared up. “It's that thing again. I’m really scared. Mary hugged me. My heart felt warm. “You know what i think?” said Mary, “I think that no one was ever around for you. So you’re scared. And i think that when your brother got hurt that was a backdoor of a restaurant and one of the chefs opened up the door and hit Trevor. I think you’re imagining all of this!” “you know what? I think you’re right. At the clock house the creeks were just the house. Because it's about a hundred years old. It happens all the time.” all this was rushing through my head. Until I came to the right thing. “I WAS IMAGINING IT MARY I REALLY WAS!” she smiled. “Now get back to bed, we have a long ways ahead of us. So let's get a good start”. Mary said softly. And walked out of the room. Leo turned MY lamp off and walked out and closed the door. I smiled and realized “this is a new start. I have a family. I have everything I need”.

The End!
